Our New Home: Fireplace Makeover

I'm over due for a Monday progress post so I'm finally sharing my fireplace makeover! YAY!  I'm so happy with how it turned out!  No more scary pink tile staring at us while we're trying to chill out in front of the fire.

...happy sigh.
Whoah!

After

I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in French Linen and then a thin wash of Old White.  Then I wiped it down with a wet cloth and sealed with clear wax.

As far as the decor goes, I just started throwing things up there.  I was kind of in a hurry, didn't want to miss out on the good light!

I'm still trying to figure out what works in this space.  My kids keep asking me why I'm moving things around again and again.

Me...
"Because that's what your silly mommy does."

At my last visit to Anthropologie, one of the displays had rope with chandelier crystals hanging of the ends.  I was so pretty!  I tried to copy it, and well...

I think it looks a bit silly.  Oh well.

The book on the ottoman is called "A Life Less Ordinary" and it's such a beautiful book, one of my favorites for sure. I found mine at Anthropologie.

This is one of my favorite pages...

"There are absolutely no rules to follow when putting your home together.  Be adventurous and shun convention, and be inspired by your surroundings. Above all, be true to yourself and fall in love with what you create."

There you have it.  Things are coming along!

If you have any questions, let me know!  I have to rush off to our Weekly big family dinner and I know I left stuff out.

I'll hop back on later tonight and include sources.

  1. You really have a gift for decorating. And because of our previous correspondence I know you also have a gift with words. You should write a book. Thanks for inspiring!!!
