DIY Everyday Garland from Wood Bead Seat Covers

Diy Wood Bead, Wooden Bead, Wood Bead Garland, Wood Bead, Seat Cover

I picked up these wood bead seat covers during one my thrifting adventures this last Summer.  I purchased one set for a quarter and later that day I picked up a couple more for $1.99.  Is it just me or does it seem like some things start popping up all at the same time?  Almost as if a few people got together and decided to get rid of their beaded seat covers on the same day!  I even came across even more seat covers a couple days later!

I had too many ideas for these so I decided to make a list and choose the best.  I came up with 7 days worth of different ways to repurpose these thrifted seat covers!  SEVEN DAYS!  So make sure you don't miss any posts.

I even made up a fancy pants name for it because I'm cool like that! I'm calling it... wait for it...

See?  Told you it was fancy!  Okay, so maybe not that fancy, but it's catchy!

Yup. Moving on.

Here is Day One's... Everyday Garland

If you are thinking of painting them, I would paint before cutting the beads loose. With the way they are strung together already, It would super easy to paint!

I gave these beads a could cleaning before I had the kids start handling them.  I used a hot damp washcloth and Clorox disinfecting wipes.

As we started cutting the beads loose, I realized that there are a whole lot more beads here than I thought, but was a quick process.

Tip: We discovered that cutting the threads diagonally across the pattern released more at beads once.

I got the kids involved!  They love to help so I try to find jobs for them when I do things like this. My children like to take things apart so this was a great project for them to help me with!

After cutting the beads loose, we ended up with a lot of fishing line pieces mixed in and kids were quick to pick it out so it wasn't in the way.  This was only maybe a quarter of one seat cover, so there is plenty more beads for other projects!

We used jute cord to string the beads.  Whenever I bead with the kids using large hole beads, I have them use a large bead stopper.  Otherwise, when the kidos pick up their string of beads to show it off, the beads fall off and then they look at you with those little disappointed faces.  It breaks my heart because that's a lot of coordination for a little one, so bead stoppers are a must.

I like that the beads are a natural tone and already have patina.

Once we tied off our strands of wood beads, I wondered through the house and started draping the strands here and there.

I draped again and again, trying to get that just right kind of drape.
